ASHLEY WILSON USF TRACK AND FIELD

Ashley Wilson is a recent high school graduate from Freedom High School. Ashley started playing softball at a very early age and dominated throughout her softball career. She made 1st team all-county as a sophomore in 2012 and again as a junior in 2013. Also in 2013, her team earned 2nd place in the State Championship and she made 1st team all-state that season. It is also important to mention that she did all of this while thriving academically. She was on the honor roll all four years of high school. But here’s the kicker: she’s entering her freshman year of college as a discus thrower with the University of South Florida’s track and field team. Although Ashley loved softball growing up, she acquired a chronic stress fracture injury that prevented her from sprinting and running in her senior year of high school. In order to stay active, she decided to join her high school track and field team and found that her niche really wasn’t in softball. Even though it was her first season, she made 1st team all-county as a discus thrower, and placed 3rd in the state in 2014. She de-committed to the college she originally signed with to play softball and signed with USF. Crazy right?! Ashley’s story is a reminder that we should always be open to new opportunities. God closed her door to softball but opened up a new one with track and field. She is happier than ever with her ability to stay in Tampa and be close to her family and friends with her new-found passion as a lean, mean, throwing machine.
