Jerry deadlifting 525lbs.
This summer many of you became familiar with our two interns from
Ball
State
University (Ryan and Jeff). Within the first week of their internship egos were high and challenges were being made. The first challenge was between Ryan and Jeff. Jeff gave Ryan 2:1 odds on a $100.00 bet that he could out sprint Ryan in the most grueling race in track and field the 400 meter sprint. In addition, Ryan challenged owner Josh Cooper in a 40 yard dash, with the winner owing the loser a steak dinner. Ryan felt that Coop was over the hill, washed up, and that being 10 years younger would give him a distinct advantage.
--Three months of smack talking followed these bets. The drama unfolded this past week:
First up was Ryan And Jeff in the 400M. Jeff in the shirt took the lead on the first turn. 7
At the two hundred meter mark Ryan had a slight lead.
Around the last corner it was dead even into the straight away!
In the last 100 meters Ryan took a large lead.
And was a champion for a day!
Ryan's happiness would be short lived. Two days later he had to revisit the track to own up on his bet with COOP.
Ryan inlisted the services of a world renowned stretching coach.
It was a capacity crowd at the track that day. Many side bets were taken, and excitment was high.
It was a close race, Ryan clocked in at a respectable 4.53 seconds. Coop (in all black below) was fresh of a week
long cruise in the caribbean, surprised himself with a time of 4.49 to take the win by a small margin.
Ryan made a last ditch effort to win the race by diving across the finish line He fell and removed much of the skin on
his back. (as seen below)
This race left Ryan physically and emotionally Scarred.
CONGRATULATIONS to all the athletes I worked with last year including Joe Klopfenstein and the rest of the University of Colorado athletes drafted this year.

This week COOPER'S SCHOOL had some visitors from across the globe.
Sensei Yamamoto's Collegiate Judo Team from
Gifu Prefecture
Japan where in town for a couple of weeks. These athletes were in the states to compete as guests in an
Orlando,
FL tournament. While in
Florida they came to the school to get a first hand look at how the Americans train. Although,
Japan is a dominate force in Judo, in recent years they have started to experience some difficulty fighting with many eastern Europeans that have developed tremendous levels of strength in the weight room. Thus, Yamamoto's team was eager to learn some of the training techniques we use. Pictured below are some of the athletes warming up for there workout. (Also check out the new album with Yamamoto's training pics.) New photos in the Photo Gallery 3/8/06

Congratulations to long time COOPER SPEED-STRENGTH SCHOOL athlete Jarred Fayson for accepting a football scholarship to the University of Florida. Jarred is a top prospect from Hillsborough H.S.. He had offers from all over the country including USC, UM, VT, to name a few. Last spring Jarred attended the NIKE H.S. COMBINE. There he was awarded most valuable player of the combine, and also putting up the second fastest forty time at 4.32! Jarred continues to work hard at COOPERS 4 days a week through the off-season. Next year in college Jarred will be stronger and faster than ever and will definitely be an impact player as well as one of the fastest men in college.
Congratulations Jarred
